Q1. What is eye donation?
Eye donation is the voluntary act of giving one’s eyes after death to help restore the vision of people suffering from corneal blindness.

Q2. Who can donate eyes?
Anyone can pledge to donate eyes, regardless of age, gender, blood group, or religion. People with poor eyesight, cataracts, or other eye issues can also donate.

Q3. Who cannot donate eyes?
Individuals with communicable diseases like HIV, Hepatitis B/C, rabies, septicemia, or infectious diseases are usually not eligible.

Q4. When should eyes be donated?
Eyes should be donated within 4–6 hours of death. That’s why it is important for family members to inform an eye bank immediately.

Q5. How can one pledge to donate eyes in India?
You can pledge through government-recognized eye banks, hospitals, or online portals like the National Organ & Tissue Transplant Organization (NOTTO).

Q6. Is there any cost involved for the donor’s family?
No. Eye donation is completely voluntary and free of cost. The eye bank team arranges collection and transportation.

Q7. Does eye donation cause disfigurement of the face?
No. The procedure is simple and does not cause any visible disfigurement.

Q8. Can living people donate their eyes?
No. Only corneas from deceased individuals can be donated. Living people can only pledge to donate.

Q9. How many people can benefit from one eye donation?
One person’s eye donation can give sight to two people.
